Why Spring is the Ideal Time of Year for Roof Inspection & Repairs

Roof Repair
If you are native to Texas, or spent any amount of time in Texas, you know that the seasons are quite unpredictable. Homeowners do their best to prepare for a wide range of temperatures, sometimes in the same week. Spring in Texas acts as a buffer between the rollercoaster of a season we call Winter & the steamy, sometimes unbearable, time of year we call Summer. This is why Spring is the best time for a thorough roof inspection and repairs, if needed.

What to Look For
Freezing temps, ice, and snow can be very damaging to shingles, wood trim, fascia board and especially seals. Any signs of moisture damage, separation of trim from roofing structures or eaves need to be repaired immediately. The biggest cause of damage to fascia and soffit is exposure to the elements. Obstructions such as leaves and twigs, need to be cleared from roof valleys and gutters. Buildup in rain gutters blocks the proper movement of water away from the home and can cause rotting in soffits and fascia boards. Leaves and other organic matter can settle in valleys and around vents causing dips and uneven spots for water to collect. Over time, debris will collect moisture & not only cause discoloration but also affect the integrity of shingles underneath. Shingles will break down, allowing moisture to penetrate and potentially rot the decking underneath.
Loose shingles can also seem insignificant. However, they can lead to costly damages if not repaired immediately. Wind lifts up shingles and in stronger wind storms, shingles will detach entirely, exposing the underlayment to the elements. Having a professional repair loose or missing shingles can prevent future costly repairs to under decking and possibly avoid a premature full roof replacement.

Get a Jump on Repairs
Texans also know that Spring is our rainy season! If roof repairs are necessary after a thorough roof inspection, getting them completed before we are knee deep in Spring storms is ideal. Obviously, repairs can be postponed if weather becomes a safety issue, making the process take longer than necessary and possibly resulting in further damage to other areas of your home. Avoid additional costly repairs by assessing problems early through inspection and scheduling repairs immediately.

Also, most homeowners tend to wait to schedule a roof inspection when they notice obvious signs of damage, or until their entire roof needs to be replaced, which means roofing contractors stay booked up into the latter part of Spring, well into Summer. If it is determined, after an inspection, that a full roof replacement is necessary, it is best to have it completed before the rainy time approaches. Also, a full roof replacement can typically be completed within one day during the longer days of Spring as it stays light longer.

We also offer drone inspections, if you don’t feel comfortable having someone on your roof or if areas of your roof are too steep to navigate safely. These clear and concise images are helpful when it is time to file a claim with your insurance company as well. Insurance adjusters will typically do an inspection. However, having clear, professional grade images of the damages can be very helpful in determining the extent to which they cover & if replacement is necessary. We at VIP stand by our promise to be by the homeowner’s side from Claim 2 Close.
